Key Facts

Frequently Asked Questions
Who should have Dermal Fillers?

Lip Enhancement is a perfect treatment if you are looking to enhance the volume, shape and definition of your lips, irregardless of your age.

How do I prepare for Treatment with Lip Enhancement?

You will be asked to minimise or avoid the intake of alcohol, Vitamin E, Fish Oil, Garlic, Gingko Biloba, Ginseng, Green Tea. This will help to reduce bruising after the treatment.

What does Treatment involve?

Lip Enhancement Treatment involves very small injections of a naturally occurring sugar known as Hyaluronic Acid into the body and borders of the lips. The needles used are very fine, and only a small volume is injected at a time.

How long does the procedure last?

Most procedures will take up to 30 minutes.

Is the treatment painful?

The discomfort experienced by the patient is quite minimal and generally well tolerated. To aid in reducing discomfort during the procedure, you will receive a local anaesthetic “Field Block” which will numb up the lips.

What results can I expect?

Lip Enhancement will improve the shape and definition of your lips. It will plump and moisten the lips and help redefine the shape and fullness that has been lost with ageing. Dermal Fillers will also lift the corners of the mouth, reduce lip lines (smoker’s lines) and enhance the border of the lips. With the development of newer dermal fillers, lips will generally feel soft and natural to touch, with an adequate amount of plumpness. Older and more rigid dermal fillers will last longer but will be firm to the touch.

It is very important to avoid injecting too much filler to avoid the all too common “Duck Look”.

When can I resume normal activities?

Patients can return to normal activities immediately following the procedure.

When will I see results?

Results are seen immediately following treatment but will continue to improve with time as the hyaluronic acid absorbs water and any bruising or swelling settles down.

How long will the results last?

Generally speaking, lip enhancement with dermal fillers can last between up to 6 months and sometimes longer. However, this will depend on the type and amount of dermal filler used and how fast your body breaks it down (body metabolism). Our doctors and nurses will discuss this in further detail at your initial consultation.

How do I maintain my results?

After your initial treatment, a follow up session will be organised at 2 weeks. At this visit, the doctor will ensure that you are happy with the results. The symmetry and fullness of the lips will be assessed carefully and if further lip enhancement treatment is required, this will be discussed on the day.

What are some of the side effects of Lip Enhancement Treatment?

The most common side effects are bruising and swelling. This will settle down with 24-48 hours. With newer generation Hyaluronic Acid Fillers, the bruising and swelling is much lower. Ask the doctor about the latest in Lip Enhancement during your initial visit.

Cautions and Contraindications

You should not have this treatment if:

  • There is any type of infection on the face (Herpes, Bacterial)
  • You are allergic to any of the ingredients
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding

Full list of side effects, cautions and contraindications will be discussed at your initial consultation.

After Care

Most patients will require very little aftercare.

If there is swelling or bruising, the lips will be iced for 20-30 minutes following the procedure

Lip Balm will help prevent dry lips initially and we will ask you to avoid make up and lipstick for the first 12-24 hours. We will also ask you to avoid heavy exercise and direct sunlight for 24-48 hours.

If you feel any lumps, you will encouraged to massage these 2-3 times a day until they have resolved. If the lumps persist, you may need to see the doctor or nurse for review and possible correction.

As with all Hyaluronic Acid Fillers, Lip Fillers can be dissolved fully if necessary
