Male Breast Liposculpture
The male breast is one of the most commonly requested areas for Liposculpture at The Sculpture Clinic.
Most enlarged male breasts are usually the result of excessive fat in and around the breast tissue. They appear feminine and unathletic and men affected by this are extremely embarrassed. Even the slightest reduction in the amount of fat in this area can achieve dramatic results.
Liposculpture is the treatment of choice and can help achieve natural results, improving the shape and contour of the breast region.
Liposculpture vs Liposuction
Liposculpture is a safer and more effective form of Liposuction that can be performed on an outpatient basis, without the need for general anaesthetic and with less down-time and post-operative discomfort.
Liposculpture is ideal for removing fat from areas of the body otherwise resistant to dietary modification and regular exercise. It is not intended as a means for generalised weight loss.

Male Breast Liposuction - Key Facts
How do you perform liposculpture of the breast?
Breast Liposculpture is a relatively quick procedure. Laser Assisted Lipolysis (Liposculpture and Combined Laser Lipolysis) is the preferred method of male breast liposculpture at Sculpture Clinic. Manual liposuction is consistently more difficult and more traumatic to the patient. A Powered Liposuction Device such as the Microair is extremely useful for this procedure as it improves the efficiency and safety of the suctioning process.
This procedure is carried out completely under local anaesthesia and under very strict protocols. An anti-anxiety tablet may be given about an hour prior to the procedure to help patients relax and to reduce anxiety. Following the prepping process, patients will be asked to lie on their back and local anaesthetic will be applied to the breast region. The anaesthetic will be allowed to settle in for at least half an hour before suctioning begins. Several 2 mm incisions are then made at the lower border of the breast and near the underarm on each side.
Micro-Cannulae are used for the procedure and clever use of a criss-cross liposculpture technique will help attain the most even and uniform results. As mentioned, a specialised laser fibre is used in conjunction with the micro-cannula to ensure that the procedure is as minimally traumatic as possible. Most patients will have very little discomfort following the procedure as a result. The laser fibre has a duel action in that it helps remove fat with minimal trauma and also improves skin tightening.
How long does male breast liposculpture take?
Most procedures will take from between one to two hours to complete.
What areas are treated during male breast liposculpture?
When performing liposculpture of the breasts, it is important to approach the breast tissue in a 3 dimensional fashion. Quite often, the fatty tissue in the breast will extend to the sides, towards the underarms (axillae). It is important that all areas of the breast are treated to obtain the a natural and clean result.
Who are the best candidates for breast liposculpture?
In general, men who have loose skin and fatty tissue in the neck, are excellent candidates for neck liposculpture. We usually recommend the following prior to breast liposculpture to rule out enlarged breast tissue (glandular tissue)
1. Blood Tests to rule out hormonal imbalances that can lead to “true” Gynaecomastia
2. Breast Ultrasound to examine the glandular tissue of the breast.
When we are happy that the enlarged breast is a result of excessive fatty deposits, then we can proceed with the liposculpture procedure.
Who is not a good candidate for male breast liposculpture?
Men who present with breast enlargement may suffer from a condition where there is excessive glandular tissue in the breast. This is referred to as Gynaecomastia. Patients with Gynaecomastia need to be evaluated further by an Endocrinologist or General Physician to rule out underlying medical conditions. These men are NOT immediately suitable candidates for breast Liposculpture.
It is important to note that Gynaecomastia is usually caused by an underlying imbalance of the male and female hormones. Excess Oestrogen and reduced Testosterone can lead to enlargement of the glands of the breast. This can be a normal part of ageing. As men age, their testosterone levels may drop, which can lead to a physiological increase of breast tissue, less commonly, pathological. There are also serious causes of gynaecomastia and these may include conditions such as Klinefelter’s syndrome, cirrhosis of the liver and testicular tumours. It is also possible to have some medication that can cause breast enlargement.
What support garments are required?
A special chest garment will be applied immediately following the procedure. It is to be worn for at least 2 weeks. An elastic binder will also be worn for the first 2-3 days. At Sculpture Clinic, we use the very best garments which provide comfort and effective compression.
How much time off work will I need?
Generally speaking, we advise 2-3 days off work. You are to avoid heavy lifting for 2-3 weeks. After this time, you can return to normal gym activities or jogging depending on your level of comfort.
Is male breast liposculpture permanent?
The answer is Yes! The reduction in the size of the breast is permanent and will remain so, even with significant weight gain.
Are there any scars?
The small entry holes used to pass the fine cannulae, are approximately 2mm wide. There are usually 1 under the earlobe and 1 under the side of the chin on each side. These small holes are never to be sutured and will settle very quickly, becoming barely visible after several weeks.
What is the cost of male breast liposculpture?
The cost of this procedure will vary according to the number of areas that require treatment. Breast Liposculpture is usually combined with liposuction of the abdomen, neck or flanks. There are also “Theatre” and “Consumable” fees which are added to the overall fee.
An accurate costing will be provided to you following your initial consultation and will be discussed in depth with our Patient Advisor.
